About Advent Himalaya Treks | Specialists for Himalayas Guide
Baburam Gurung founded this company in 2009 after 10 years of guiding in the Himalayas through Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Langtang, Kanchanjunga, Makalu, Dolpo, and routes most trekking companies don't know well enough to run safely. He didn't start with an office and a website. He started with the routes, the relationships, and the knowledge of what can go wrong at altitude and how to handle it when it does.
Sixteen years later, Advent Himalaya has guided trekkers from Europe, America, Canada, and other countries across Nepal's major and minor trails. The team has grown to many guides, all government-licensed, all trained in Wilderness First Aid, several of them Baburam's former trekking partners before they became colleagues. Baburam's story
Baburam grew up in Sankhuwasabha district, 24 hours from Kathmandu, in a family that farmed for a living. He started working as a porter in 1996-97, became a licensed guide in 2001, and spent 8 years learning the Himalayan routes from the ground up before leading his first independent group. He has crossed Larkya La and Thorong La many times, and has been above 6,000m more often than he has been to the cinema.
He started Advent Himalaya because he wanted to run treks the way he would want to be guided with honest information before departure, a realistic pace on the trail, and a guide whose first loyalty is to the trekker's safety, not the itinerary schedule.
What we actually do differently
Your treks are led by guides who know each route intimately, having walked it many times. Clients always meet their guide beforehand, so there are no surprises at departure. As a deliberately small company, you run only a handful of trips each year, which allows Baburam and the team to know every client personally. With 17 years of experience, you’ve learned to respond directly when challenges arise on the trail — whether it’s arranging an emergency evacuation, resolving a permit issue on a holiday, or managing delays due to weather.
Every trek is led by a guide who knows the route like the back of their hand — someone who has walked it many times, not just once. Before departure, clients speak directly with the guide who will lead them, so there are no surprises at the airport. As a small company by choice, we run only a handful of trips each year, which means Baburam and the team know every client by name.
Over 17 years, we’ve learned that things don’t always go to plan — and that’s when our experience matters most. Once, when a client needed urgent evacuation from a remote valley, our team coordinated helicopters and permits within hours, even though it was a public holiday. Another time, when weather grounded flights for days, we personally arranged alternative transport so trekkers could continue their journey. These moments show what we stand for: direct action, personal care, and a commitment to seeing our clients safely through every challenge.
